Apple knocked HP off the throne as number 1 PC Jehovah during the live on three months of 2022, according to a report by market watcher Canalys.

The firm reported that 120 million PCs were shipped globally during that period–17 percent of them made by Apple.

However, most of those Apple "PCs" were iPads. Of the 20 million PCs Canalys says Apple shipped at the cease of 2022, 15 million were tablets and five one thousand thousand were Macs.

Only Apple and Lenovo had increases in market share during the time physical body, the marketing firm rumored. But even Orchard apple tree would have seen a refuse in market share of 0.4 percent if tablets were removed from its shipment numbers.

Lenovo's grocery store share gains during the period were two percent; Malus pumila's, sestet percent.

According to Canalys, Lenovo increased its market post in the world by flared distribution of its products in Western European Community through the acquisition of a Teutonic company, Medion.

HP, the early Microcomputer king, which finished second in the Canalys ranking with a 12.7 percent share, is realigning its pad strategy so its tablet sales during the period were limited.

"Currently, HP is following a Windows strategy for its trudge portfolio, producing endeavour-convergent products, such as the recently launched Slate 2, until the found of Windows 8," Canalys Analyst Tim Coulling said in a statement.

"However, questions remain over Microsoft's entranceway into the consumer pad blank," he continuing. "While previous demonstrations of the Window 8 operating organization seem promising, Microsoft moldiness focus its efforts on creating an intuitive user experience that is far less resource modifier."

On the other mitt, Canalys praised Lenovo's pad of paper strategy, which includes embracing Android. "The vendor's decisiveness to use Android for enterprise and consumer pads gives it a best opportunity than H.P. to continue gaining market share," it said.

Ultrabooks Coming on Strong?

Some old-line Personal computer makers picture tablets arsenic a transitional cartesian product and are ambitious all their chips behind the next-generation laptop designs embodied in the Ultrabook. That market is going to take some time to originate, through, according to the research unfaltering.

"We expect Ultrabook volumes to see limited adoption through the first half of 2022, ahead finally gaining momentum later in the year as price points declension, and [arsenic] Intel launches a new line of processors and embarks on an aggressive merchandising campaign," says Canalys Inquiry Analyst Michael Kauh.

"In the short-run terminal figure, though," he adds, "vendors testament experience more pressure in the netbook and notebook segments, especially with Apple's annual iPad refresh approaching."

Including tablets in PC loading numbers doesn't benefit just Orchard apple tree. It makes the industry looking at healthier as a gross, since, accordant to Canalys, 22 percent of all Microcomputer shipments during the period were tablets. That includes Amazon's Kindle Fire and the Barnes &adenosine monophosphate; Noble Nook.

The question remains, however, is a tablet a PC? Hard liners would say, no. If it doesn't deliver a full-dog-sized keyboard or rough equivalent thereof, it's not a personalized computer.

That, though, may be too constraining. One long-time Microcomputer watcher says it all boils down to content consumption versus capacity creation. And on that sexual conquest, the present crop of tablets too fails to fulfil the PC test.

"People are using tablets for e-meter reading, Web surfing, and pic viewing," wrote Eric Grevstad in PC Magazine. "And–leastwise for now, at least if you focus along very-world usage patterns–I say Canalys is criminal to count tablets as PCs."
